From Plutonium in Drinking Water, based on the Safe Drinking Water Act

Many people do not know that the water standards set for Yucca Mt. are based on drinking 2 liters a day, only half the amount of water needed to stay alive indoors, for only a 30 year period. Many people in the Yucca Mt. area lead active lives and ranch, mine, or work outside in tourism-based industries. It also assumes that you will never be exposed to any residual fallout contamination from the adjacent Nevada Test Site or eat locally grown or wild-harvested food. 

Reservation-based Native Americans and other multi-generational family members stay here all their lives, and may also be passing potential harmful effects along genetically to their children. The first row below shows what the Safe Drinking Water Act is based on. We have also calculated the real exposure rates for various levels of consumption and time frames, based on drinking the 'safe' amount of plutonium in water.
